Computer programs are written in software code (referred to as source code), and then compiled into executables (for instance, in Windows, this would be a .exe file), so that they are run faster during runtime.
If you only had a program executable, it would be nearly impossible to go back and change its logic, or even how it looks. This is the case with proprietary “enterprise” applications. In other words, only the company that wrote the original source code has access to the source code, and if you want any changes, you can only ask that company for it.
However, if you had the source code of the program, then you could make as many customizations to the code as you wished. Because Oscar is Open Source, everybody in the world has access to Oscar’s source code. This means that anybody with the time and inclination could make changes for you.We at OscarEMR+ have a team of engineers who are well versed with the technologies used in the development of the Oscar application, and we’d be happy to help make Oscar even better for you and your needs.Meanwhile, if you decide to use Oscar without any customized changes, you can just use it for free! Just make sure you configure the backups and security aspects correctly. Or, you can hire a company like OscarEMR+ to set it up for you.
